Construction Equipment Association New show

The CEA (Construction Equipment Association) announced today their plans to host a new biennial working plant show named PLANTWORX which will be held at Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire,  on 14th, 15th and 16th May 2013.

The new event will have a strong focus on construction equipment, tools and equipment accessories – with machinery demonstration its core feature.

PLANTWORX meets the construction industry demands for a focused plant and equipment show.  The size of the plant and equipment sector, valued at £8.5 billion to the UK economy, highlights the significance of this sector and the importance of a major UK construction event.

CEA Chief Executive Rob Oliver said, “PLANTWORX is the CEA’s response to our members’ enthusiasm for a new event which will give them a solid return for their marketing investment. By organising it as a trade show “for the industry, by the industry” we plan to be responsive to both exhibitor and visitor requirements. This is why we are consulting widely amongst the construction community on what they want to see in the show. This is an exciting project for us, all the more so as such a large number of leading companies have already pledged their support.”

The CPA (Construction Plant Hire Association) has also given PLANTWORX its backing and through its members will be promoting this event as the UK’s number one destination for plant, tools and machinery in 2013.  Colin Wood, CPA’s Chief Executive said, “I welcome the initiative to start a trade event for the industry. We will be working with the CEA to ensure that it is a show that provides maximum interest for the plant hire sector”.

Leading manufacturers have been closely consulted to ensure PLANTWORX will meet the needs of suppliers as well as the requirements of its target audience involved in buying, specifying and operating construction equipment.

Research – what potential visitors wanted from a UK construction event?
The PLANTWORX team embarked on visitor research – to find out exactly what would attract them to a brand new construction show.  87% of those asked indicated that a wide choice of equipment suppliers was important and would influence their decision to visit.  Almost 70% stated that machine demonstration assists in specifying equipment, influenced their buying decision, and choice of construction equipment. PLANTWORX is able to offer the visitor all of these aspects and more besides.

Other key reasons for visiting included, 83% wanted to see something new, 74% wanted to speak to suppliers about key issues and 62% wanted to buy equipment.

About PLANTWORX – the site

When considering the options for a new construction show the requirements were clear, manufacturers wanted a central England location with excellent demonstration facilities – another requirement was for a biennial event alternating with the well-established quarry based Hillhead exhibition.  Stoneleigh Park ticked all the boxes.

Operations director PLANTWORX Mike Coleman said, “Stoneleigh has a good demonstration facility, with no restrictions on digging depth, which is exactly what manufacturers wanted.  It comprises 28 acres, which equates to 80,000 sqm of which 51,000 sqm is exhibition area, 21,000 sqm of that is demonstration space, which includes 15,000 sqm for earthmoving demonstration. There is also more than adequate parking and a proven traffic management plan is in place.”

Mike continued, “Logistically Stoneleigh Park is ideal and sits only 15 minutes from a main line train station (Coventry), easy access to the motorway network and just 30 minutes from the nearest airport (Birmingham).  There is also no shortage of accommodation in nearby towns.”

The format of PLANTWORX 2013

The inaugural PLANTWORX is aiming to attract at least 250 exhibiting companies comprising leading construction equipment manufacturers, leading component and accessory suppliers and leading construction equipment service providers.

The key to this show’s success will be the largest demonstration areas ever provided at a UK event. For those exhibitors not demonstrating competitively priced ready to exhibit stands will be available.  An undercover pavilion with 60 stands for ancillary products will also be constructed with scope to grow.

The PLANTWORX exhibitions team will also be identifying relevant ‘bolt-on’ events, to compliment the construction theme.

Leading up to PLANTWORX 2013

PLANTWORX website will live by the end of January at  The team will be regularly up dating this site with news, developments and exhibitor information leading up to the 2013 show.  PLANTWORX is also planning an exhibitor day at Stoneleigh Park on 25th May 2011 for committed companies and for potential exhibitors showing interest in the UK’s new construction event.

In conclusion

With the extensive work carried out by the PLANTWORX team and by listening and to what the industry influencers as a whole wanted from a show – PLANTWORX is confident that its first event from 14th – 16th May 2013 at Stoneleigh Park will be a resounding success.

This biennial event will take its place as the new leading construction exhibition for construction professionals and the number one destination for construction professionals to see, try and buy the very latest in construction machinery and equipment.

The show, with its strong demonstration ethos, is a show for the industry by the industry.
